Good morning Tropico!
The fourth instalment of Tropico is here, and we managed to squeeze in a review for you. Sorry it’s taken so long we’ve been pretty busy building dragon slaying equipment for “That other game”
So I have to inform people that haven’t played Tropico before what it is etc, if you already know this then you might want to skip a paragraph.
Tropico is a Simcity-like game in that you build a city, on a tropical island and have to make choices and such leaning it toward a Civilization-like game, but it really lands somewhere between and gets the best of both games, like that magical bread. You can be a kind ruler or a dick, simply put. There’s also radio commentary that will inform the people of Tropico if you build something good or wave a middle finger to them for money, it’s awesome.
So if you played Tropico 3 you may be either hopping straight to this, or waiting wondering if you should. Well there are lots of little differences that really only begin to emerge if you’re familiar with Tropico 3, but there are some key differences you will notice:
More missions
More buildings
A story line (Slow emerging but it’s there!)
These pull together to make a really good game, it doesn’t port great to a console as you can imagine but it’s relatively easy to control considering.
It feels as though the game is really easy on the first level but then you are hit by a natural disaster and the whole thing hits the fan, I don’t mean the shit hits the fan, I mean the whole island.
The interface as a whole is a lot easier to manoeuvre and more pleasant to use. You can also customize your character a lot more! But if you have a woman Presidente, she still speaks like a man. (This is a plus in my books!)
Tropcio 4 is a great game and a clear must have for any fan of the previous games, it’s stepped up a long way since to original games, and it’s clearly just getting better.
