“Treasure Treasure” – Worth it’s weight in gold

September 5, 2010 |  by  |  Reviews

“Treasure Treasure” is the newest Xbox Live Indie Game from Craig Forrester, the creator behind the brilliant “Johnny Platform” series.

The aim of the game is to work together with a friend (or on your own if you have none) to try and find all the hidden pieces of treasure in a large fortress.
You have to jump on each others heads, use unique abilities to each character and put all your cooperative skills together. The graphics are reminiscent of an old Gameboy game, and even has the little “power on” light to the side. 8-bit music also accompanies your adventure.

You knew as soon as you switched it on that it would be a good game. Johnny Platform is one of the best platform series on the Xbox 360 in general, regardless of being an Indie game. “Treasure Treasure” doesn’t disappoint.

If I had to describe how the cooperative works in this game, the first thing that came to mind was the old Sega Megadrive game “Mickey and Donald’s World of Illusion”, which is a really good thing.

The two characters Trixie and Troy handle differently, with their own unique abilities. Troy can push blocks and lift bombs, and Trixie can jump higher to reach hidden spots. In some cases you’ll have to jump on each other’s heads, or have Trixie carry bombs on her head that Troy has lobbed up there.
If you want to seperate and adventure on your own though then that’s fine, there’s a great little split screen feature that activates whenever you move away from each other.

Overall there are 21 peices of treasure that range from bars of gold to squirrels in planes. When playing it with a friend, the best we managed was 19/21, and we’re pretty competent gamers, so i’d say the game was a challenge.

You can play the game alone and control both characters, but it’s nowhere near as fun. Make sure you have a friend around to have a go at this.

For a mere 80MS Points, Treasure Treasure is probably the most cooperative game on the market. With funky old school graphics, 8-bit tunes and smooth, easy to control gameplay, you could really do a lot worse.
