Top fears for 2012 albeit unlikely

December 4, 2011 |  by  |  News

Fears for 2012, I’m not the kind of guy that believes in the world ending. And I certainly don’t care if it does. So let’s take a look at the better world ending: the gaming world.

There’s been a lot of speculation about releasing games on mobiles again, with the rise of smart phones this was inevitable. But do we really need as many as they’re hoping for? A common claim among developers is that mobile and portable games are the way of the future. And while I do love having games on my W7P, I don’t think there should be a sacrifice of Xbox games. I’m not saying that there will be an absolute annihilation of Xbox games, but a lot of games that would originally be considered for the Xbox live arcade may hit the mobile market place, but I’ve always preferred a controller to the thin, breakable mobile device.

Guild Wars 2 won’t launch in 2012, I much prefer Guild Wars 2 to Star Wars the Old Republic, or at least from what I played. (Not the beta, I actually read the T&Cs, sad right?) Guild Wars 2 has had me practically wetting myself in anticipation, if they don’t launch in 2012, there will be hell to pay. I don’t care if the world explodes, I want that game.

Every game becomes motion controlled: there have been far too many motion controller enabled games. As I’ve said a few times. I despise them, I seriously can’t imagine wanting to play a game like Ghost Recon with Kinect. Or steel battalion actually, does anyone remember the original? The best thing about it was the controller we nick-named the “compensator”

PETA open human rights division: okay, so the “smart and angry” people of PETA love to accuse games of animal cruelty, cooking mama and Mario have fallen victim. With little avail I will admit. But imagine a human rights division, imagine if they actually had power. Mortal Kombat, Call of Duty and pretty much everything would fall victim of the “interesting” techniques of PETA.

Social games and social integration become the big big thing: On the new dashboard you can share achievements online. On certain games you have to have a facebook account to unlock certain achievements, and characters etc. So imagine for a moment if everybody did it, every game would be effected and the old-school stereotypical anti social gamer would be hit hardest, “Invite 10 friends” would be pretty much impossible, only 3 friends and one is a porn-bot.

2012 should be a good year for gaming, provided these things are avoided, they’re not impossible but they’re not exactly likely.
