Tomb Raider Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed (US and UK)

Tomb Raider Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed (US and UK)

October 9, 2012 |  by  |  News

It’s become popular in the gaming industry to encourage new game sales by offering pre-order bonuses to people willing to put money on a product before they can even be sure they’ll like it. In fact, it’s gotten to the point where I cannot honestly think of a triple-A game release this year that hasn’t had some sort of pre-order compensation package- I mean, reward.

Anyway, with the re-vamped Tomb Raider game set to be released March 5th of 2013, Square Enix has decided to reveal the first wave of pre-order bonuses you can expect to receive if you buy the game now. Unfortunately, you’ll have to take stock of your priorities, because it’s one of those “Different bonus for each retailer” sales, and unless you’re willing to pay 50 dollars for a new costume for Lara you’ll have to be rather selective. We’ll look at the US versions first.

Amazon

If you pre-order over Amazon, you’ll get a copy of the game (In case that wasn’t implied), a Hunter skin (That covers Laura in mud, “Action-Movie Style), a copy of the art book, and The Final Hours of Tomb Raider for the Kindle Fire.

Best Buy

If you pre-order from Best Buy, you’ll get rewarded with a slightly less erotically charged “Aviatrix” skin and a 48-page hardback comic book called “The Beginning”.

Gamestop

If you pre-order from Gamestop, you actually get content for the game: you’ll get access to the “Challenge tomb”, where “Lara will encounter all new environment puzzles that will test her abilities”. Which seems like it kind of goes against the theme of the game this time, but what do I know?

The UK side has a different set, being as Best buy and Gamestop still aren’t big players, they’ve looked to GAME, Shopto, Amazon and Tesco for the pre orders here.

GAME

Pre ordering from game gets you the explorer pack, which unlocks a special exclusive tomb in the game, and the fast climb upgrade, which is as dull as it sounds.

Tesco

A word of warning on this one, Tesco have a reputation for being slow with orders, some people waiting for over two weeks, seriously. Pre-ordering here gets you the combat pack, which gives you a pistol silencer, giving you a stealth edge, a headshot reticule upgrade, allowing you to use weapons with more accuracy, and combined with the pistol silencer, a damn fine combo. You also get the pistol burst mode upgrade, giving your pistol a three burst firing mode and finally, the animal instinct upgrade, which gives you bonus XP in survival instinct mode.

Shopto

Pre-ordering from Shopto will give you a digital download of the special edition comic book, it’s a collection of six comics piled into one across 48 pages.

Amazon UK

And finally, pre ordering from Amazon UK will see you getting “Exclusive DLC” no clue what that could be…And erm, a promise of more details later in the year, gee thanks Amazon.

Sound interesting to you? Supposedly it’s only supposed to get better, because as we get closer to the game’s final release date, we’ll get more and more information about further exclusive bonuses you can get from each retailer. Let me know if one of the retailer bonuses gets you a copy of the game without any creepy rape undertones, and I’ll shop there.
