THQ Is Gone, Prince Harry Offends Taliban

January 25, 2013 |  by  |  News

So, you might have heard the news, but THQ is offically dead. Its intellectual properties are sold, and its employees have been laid off, with the development teams falling apart.

Lead combat designer at Vigil Games, Ben Cureton told NeoGAF, “I’ve been laid off more than once. It sucks every time. But am I sad I don’t have a job? Not really… I’m sure I’ll get another one eventually. I’m sad because it won’t be THIS job. It won’t be at Vigil. That’s why I’m sad. The people I waged war with are no longer together. The people that I bled with, vented with, argued with (often times LOUDLY), and kicked back with… these people will never be together again in the same combination.”

Wow, that is depressing. Really depressing. I liked THQ. I liked the games they made… Why did they have to die when so many other companies deserve it more?! I’m getting really sad, guys, can anything cheer me up at this dark time?!

…What’s this? A story about Prince Harry irritating the Taliban with his gaming habits? Well, it’s worth a try!

Prince Henry recently came back from his tour of duty in Afghanistan, where he worked as an Apache helicopter co-pilot gunner. Well, in a interview with the International Business Times about his time in the war, he said in jest, “It’s a joy for me because I’m one of those people who loves playing PlayStation and Xbox so, with my thumbs, I like to think that I’m probably quite useful. I thrash them at Fifa the whole time.”

Innocent joking around, but you know who sort of makes it their habit to get offended at even the smallest slights? The Taliban, that’s who. Offended by the comment, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said, “This statement is not even worth condemning. It is worse than that. This prince comes and compares this war with his games, PlayStation or whatever he calls it.”

He called Harry a coward and suggested that he’s mentally ill from his time in service, then continued to say, “To describe the war in Afghanistan as a game demeans anyone – especially a prince, who is supposed to be made of better things. It shows the lack of understanding, of knowledge. It shows they are unfamiliar with the situation and shows why they are losing.”

I dunno, buddy, but if I’m not mistaken, you started this, so you sort of lost your right to complain about how the enemy views the war. Still, seeing the Taliban get angry over this fills me with a stupid sense of glee, so it’s just what I need to keep me distracted about the loss of THQ. Maybe we can offend them again when the PS4 comes out and I won’t be able to afford it.
