Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures Early Beta Review

August 21, 2010 |  by  |  Reviews

So this is early stages of the beta. It’s been out less than a day, but I must say I like it!

The beta has just three races- clone, human, and Togruta. But the beta already boasts a large array of games to throw at you, some great, some not so great. For example, there’s a game where you type letters in the keyboard and a 2D ship kills another 2D ship- not really that impressive. On the other hand, you can have a light saber duel! Currently, and as far as I know, only one game allows you to unlock various titles, which is a blaster game a little like a shooting range but with droids. Sadly, I don’t know what the titles do. Also, it’s worth knowing that the light saber duel can be multiplayer- yes, even on the beta.

The graphics are pretty decent, especially for a free MMO, and the game runs very smoothly as a whole. It’s showing hints at certain things, such as becoming a Jedi, and some kind of other credit, which I assume we’ll have to pay for. However, there’s still plenty of stuff to buy with credits you can earn from small games. Jedi is literally a membership, though. It’s clear that a lot of stuff is going to require membership.

In terms of things to buy, there are all kinds, from clothes and armour to furniture and pet robots. You can even buy your own speeder! We’re still waiting on the custom light sabers, though- the section is there, but they’re not allowing people to use it yet. The game even allows you to pick if you want to buy the whole set of parts or each one separately. This helps spread the cost a little and gives the game a little more flexibility.

The customization is understandably lacking, giving little more than three options. Also, it’s worth noting that the game seems to be aimed at younger Star Wars fans, and if you’re like me and noticed the game doesn’t actually allow Coruscant names, you’ll probably feel a little out of place.

One last thing- the language filter is the worst I’ve ever seen. Upon making an account under “Custard Trout” I received a small message on the side saying, “Sorry no bad words :-( “ Also it seems to dislike the word “Cheesy.” Despite these drawbacks, it’s good, cheap fun.
