Play Expo Reveal Talk list

Play Expo Reveal Talk list

August 22, 2012 |  by  |  News

Formerly “Replay” expo, Play Expo is the only real North West gaming Expo. Being held in Manchester they’ll be covering retro, modern and pro gaming. As well as these four “Gaming zones” (3, really.) they’ll be bringing us some great talks from developers, film makers and game publishers.

Let’s take a look at the talks that will be held there, first up we have Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett, who is there executive producer. He’ll be talking about the making of Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, as well as hold a Q&A session. Replay Events teases us that he might reveal a secret or two about the game.

We’ll also hear from Anthony Caulfield, film maker and brains behind “From Bedrooms to Billions” which tells the tale of the UK gaming industry. Looking at how it fell and climbed back up.

We also know that Thumbstar games will be doing a talk, looking at past and present projects. We’ll hear from Martin Edmondson who worked on Shadow of the Beast, Ballistix, Destruction Derby, Stuntman and the Driver series!

While we’ve got you, let’s take a look at the games we can expect…Many people are worried that Replay Events will neglect the retro, which is simply wrong, they won’t neglect retro. Quite the contrary in fact! We will see over 50 (75 to be precise) pinball machines alone. And consoles including: 3DO, Neo-Geo, SNES, Mega Drive, MegaCD, N64, Sega Saturn, Jaguar, and PlayStation 1, that’s the 90′s, but Replay go beyond. Let’s look at my personal favourite, the 80′s line up: NES, Master System, PC, (Damn old engines), Vectrex (PLAY THIS!), and Colecovision! But, they’re still going, 70′s now! Atari 2600 will be in decent supply, we can expect more from the 70′s but I imagine the guys at Replay have a hard time getting them. Other retro consoles, (Or computers) include: C64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad, BBC Micro, Electron and many, many more.

Of course we’ll see plenty of arcade machines too! And are of course, free to play. But treat them with respect, because they’re provided by collector’s and communities.

Looking at the modern side of things, we know Tekken Tag 2 will be around. Other than that we just can’t say! But we’re currently prodding the guys at Replay for you, because I know a lot of our readers will be going there! So far we know that Namco, Nintendo, Konami and EA If this is your first event, and you want to know what games are likely to be there, think about games that will be coming from these guys around Christmas. We know that Need for Speed Most Wanted and Fifa 2013 will be on show!
