The search over the years Sony has been on to find a Halo killer is no secret in this industry. The release of Killzone 3 on 2/22 I believe could be Sony’s time to shine if a few issues are addressed that were present in Killzone 2. The release of Halo Reach secured the end of Bungie and Microsoft’s relationship, and Bungie’s work on the Halo series (Microsoft’s cash cow). The release of Reach signaled a couple things to me. One the Halo series is in limbo right now, and second Halo is still based on the same (in my opinion stale) formula. The people over at Guerilla games are still improving and elevating the Killzone series.
The last effort we saw from Guerilla had beautiful graphics and a in your face shooter experience that should not be forgotten. I just think the dark shades of grey and brown lacked a little atmosphere. The other aspect that brought the title down was the feeling you were just shoved to each check point. The title lacked a feeling of freedom that is important to offer the player in this generation of games. The multiplayer was an amazing experience and offered things like bots (robots spawned to cause havok for the opposing team) and an amazing group of different classes to choose from. These were welcome aspects of the title that were not offered in any Halo title.
The media that has been released thus far on Killzone 3 (see below for screens & trailers) has been mind blowing. The superior graphics that Guerilla is known for are there, but smooth 3D game play (if you have enough $ for a 3D TV) and more open environments have my excitement level very high. There are a few factors if present in this title that will secure Sony their first Halo killer. The story needs to be a little more solid than the last effort. The gameplay needs a little more flavor, I believe with the new brutal neck snapping melee attacks, and open environments this will be achieved. The last key factor will be if the multiplayer has a little more variety, and a better match making design. Thanks for reading and check back for my review of Killzone 3 coming soon. Do you the reader feel Killzone 3 can kick Halo in the teeth?

Great Article.
I was never much of a killzone fan myself though. This may just be because I personally don’t prefer sony in general. Maybe if Killzone 3 will not be exclusive for the PS3 I may give it a try.
In the end though, it’s not necessarily Halo I love, it’s bungie in general. With Bungie not doing Halo anymore – Who knows what will happen.
Had a bit of a fiddle with it at Eurogamer, it was really really good.
And I was told it was an hour of them, Floof
I remember loving Killzone 1, but Killzone 2 and the demo of 3 I just wasn’t into. I think it was the weird controls tbh, I can’t remember KZ1′s being like that.
I like Halo but….you are right, it’s time for a change. I’m a big fan of online play. Story mode is cool but Multiplayer is where it’s at for me. If Killzone 3 can compete in that area I’m Hook, Line and Sinker.
I think its 70 mins of cinematics.
I certainly hope so. No disrespect to Halo but it is really starting to get old, and the gaming world needs a little juice in terms of new and interesting. Killzone looks like a ton of fun. I got a chance to play the first two and they were pretty addicting. I’m pretty convinced it can stand on its own two legs just fine in single-player, it is whether or not the multiplayer can truly compete with Halo. Halo seemed like a game that made so many people “convert” to Xbox 360, but Ps3 hasn’t had a shooting game that could do the same. I heard that Killzone 3 was packing something like 70 hours of cinematics? Know if that is true?
