By now we all know what Gears of War is, and what it has to offer but does this game offer anything new to the series? Actually, it does.
We played as both CoG and Locust, on the “Overrun” mode we will take a look at how the CoG played first.
In this period, the CoG are beating beaten relentlessly and are hardly pulling by, and you can really feel the struggle as you work with your teammates to protect a generator, the locust come thick and fast. You’ll notice, provided the locust know how to play, that the gates fall down pretty quickly. And you end up rushing around and panicking. I played as a medic, and the system worked really well. I got these kind of health grenades that really evened the odds. It’s interesting that the game really managed to get a struggle sense out of it.
Our CoG turn lasted about 10 minutes I think, maybe 7? Before the generator was surrounded and destroyed.
We swapped over to locust, and the match lasted about 3 minutes. We figured out that 1 mauler and 1 kantus makes the duo pretty much unstoppable, because the mauler soaks up bullets and the kantus can just stay behind it and heal. The locust are feeling a little more powerful now too but maybe that was just the morale boost from watching CoG run away that made them feel stronger.
The whole game felt a lot looser and more fluid, obviously I can’t give a full in depth analysis of it, but we all agreed it was pretty fun and really spiced up the series. This game is looking like a must for not just Gears fans but also for people looking for a bit of challenge and what is sure to be a thrilling story.
