As a faithful Final Fantasy gamer who has played every game in the franchise, I couldn’t help but to talk about this. I was talking to a few of my friends who have played this game and we all agreed on the same thing.
When I first saw the previews of Final Fantasy XIII, I was really excited. We were being introduced to this strong female character named Lightning. Plus, it was the first Final Fantasy game for the PS3 and XBox 360 system. I grabbed my copy and began playing.
Within the first couple of hours, I found myself playing an ongoing soap opera. The graphics, voice acting, and of course, the gameplay was absolutely amazing. The gameplay especially was good. It took some time for me to adjust to it because I’m so used to playing role-playing games back in the day. The type of games when you had time to think and decide what your next move was going to be.
I found myself not connecting at all to the main character Lightning. There were twists and turns all over the place. Some of the storylines revolving around a few of the supporting character didn’t make any sense. The first ten chapters of Cocoon felt like a waste of time. Not only that, but the whole thing revolving around Cocoon was confusing.
Maybe a part of it is because it’s a complete departure to some of its western themed stories. In a Final Fantasy game, there is normally a western flavor added to the game. I didn’t see any of it.
I could go on and on, but these are just a few examples. I have never not liked a Final Fantasy game so much since Square Enix’s attempt to bring the franchise into the online world of gaming. After reading all the reviews and having gone through my personal experiences with the game, I can’t help but wonder. Is Final Fantasy XIII the worst game in the franchise?
If so, would you still give the sequel a chance when it comes out next year?
