Genix Preview – Indie Survival Space Shooter

Genix Preview – Indie Survival Space Shooter

Here at Addict of Fiction, we love a good indie game. We are also fans of space, and lasers! So mix all of them together and we are instantly pleased.

Genix is one of those indie games with very simple graphics, but as any gamer will, or should tell you, graphics aren’t everything. The graphics are simple white lines for walls, enemies and you. Doors are coloured lines and so are key cards. But it doesn’t remove the enjoyable gameplay.

The game has a simple story, you have to defend the world from pesky aliens. You do this by navigating through mazes and blasting the hell out of them, but the big twist that makes this game stand out from the others is that it’s basically a giant survival mission.

Health and ammo are slowly plucked away throughout the game, as you progress you’ll start with less. Which means you have to think tactically about what you’re going to kill, and what you’re going to avoid.

The controls are a little awkward, in a kind of classic way, they’re not bad – just awkward. The directional buttons turn your ship, space fires, and WASD control the movement, so you often find your hands moving all over the keyboard.

The enemies all fire differently, some are giant spinning circles of death and some fire in four directions, there was even some weird worm thing.

The game has an interesting take, it’s somewhere between survival and retro shooter. There’s room for improvement as there always is, but it’s a great little game from Xpod and is pretty fun to play!

Do take note, that this was only a demo that was sent to us. And we can expect much more from the new game including, levels, weapons and enemies.
