The 7th and 8th of July will allow gamers to finally get up close with some great games. They’re celebrating 40 years of British video gaming, with around 5000 other people over the weekend!
Ian Livingstone, creator of the “Fighting Fantasy” adventure book series is going to run a workshop on how interactive books can bring storytelling to video games, Ian is also known for being Life President of Edios, and he co-founded games workshop, and just to top it all off he wrote a cheat book for SEGA games awhile back. Inkle is the company behind this, which was set up by Jon Ingold and Joseph Humfrey.
It’s an interesting mix, but makes a lot of sense if you think about it. We’ll also see Games Britannia: Replayed, which focuses on game-based learning, I imagine looking at things other than smashing skulls in.
The event is also giving donations to Special Effect for each ticket sold, as you should know by now, we’re big supporters of Special Effect. They’re going to be running speeches from:
Martin Hollis, who produced Goldeneye (The legendary N64 game) will share stage with Eurocom’s Tony willis.
Original creator of Football manager, Kevin Toms will chat about the everlasting appeal of management games, with Miles Jacobson of Sports Interactive.
There will also be a small section given to board games, as well as a world record attempt involving lasers! Several tournaments will also run along the weekend.
Here’s a list of games they’ll be letting you play:
Nintendo are bringing their “Unleashed tour” which shows off a lot of 3DS and Wii games.
Minecraft will be playable, and you’ll have the chance to meet the team behind Minecraft EDU.
Sumo Digital will be showcasing Dr.Who adventure games, Outrun 2600, and Sega & Sonic all stars racing: Transformed (That’s the new one)
There’s a section called “Best of British” which has 3D monster maze, and Batman Arkham City, and much more, showing off our best games.
Indie scene, we see Majestic 12, Redshirt, gunpoint game, and girls love robots.
There’s also a zone where the best picked games from the past 40 years are on show, everything from PC to arcade.
We always love a good expo, and no one puts on a show like Replay. Tickets here, and coverage of “Replay expo” from last year here
