It feels like only yesterday Bioware teased us (almost begrudgingly) with the title of the new Dragon Age game. While we could gleam a little from it and the small details Bioware shared, it wasn’t nearly enough to state our curiosity. But thankfully, Bioware just released some more exciting information about the third game in the Dragon Age series during the Comic & Entertainment Expo in Edmonton, and let me tell you, it’s a lot more substantial.
A fun fact we learned was that Dragon Age 3 has been in pre-production longer than Mass Effect, and the two previous games in the series. This bodes well.
We also learned that it will be grander in scale than the second game: Bioware touted “just one level in DA3 is as big as all of DA2′s levels”, which sounds very impressive if you never played Dragon Age 2. But if you have, you know that one of the main criticisms of the second game was the fact that you only really had three locations to explore: The city of Kirkwall, Sundermount Mountain, and the Wounded Coast.
Moving on, we also learn that there’s a possibility you’ll be able to take control of a rather large fortress, which opens up the possibility for some very unique customization… speaking of customization, Bioware shared quite a few details on that front. You’ll be able to dye armor, customize your companions, and even though you’ll still be stuck as a human this time around, you’ll be able to choose your backstory from one of many offered. They did include, however, that while you wouldn’t get to actually play through your backstory, it would affect the story.
When asked if we’d run into any old companions along the way, they answered with a vague assurance that we’ll learn what ‘became’ of some.
Finally, we learned that Bioware is still aiming for a late autumn 2013 release for the game, which sets it quite a ways into the future. Hopefully, between then and now, we’ll learn a little more about the inquisition, and why we should be excited for it.
No news on what platforms it’ll be released for, but PC is probably a safe bet.
