I’ve been a bit of a Devil May Cry fan for awhile, okay I’m not as hardcore as some people but I really think Dante has been perfected through the series, cocky, cool and confident. He made the series complete, I even bought a fancy red trench coat that was based from his!
So you can imagine my rage, like all fans when they replaced him with a twilight lookalike. I genuinely wanted to hate this game. Much to my surprise, it won me over, damn.
The game requires a lot less skill by giving you the ability to pull and push enemies quickly, which means that you can gain big combos easily, but it doesn’t make them less satisfying, it still feels amazing when you climb the combo ranks.
The game play is a lot more fast paced and I have to say, they’ve nailed hack ‘n’ slash really well, with seamless gunplay to close range weapons, the game can run combat really well without it feeling clunky. I was almost annoyed at the fact I was having so much bloody fun.
The game makes good use of the environment, huge words will appear taunting you and areas will collapse, expand and smash around you, making it really tense. The half gritty, half insane world felt more like a psychological world than a standard world, which actually made the game really enjoyable and impacted a lot.
They’ve paid a lot of attention to detail in this and really made an intense hack’n'slash that they can be proud of, with devil trigger looking and feeling more awesome than ever. The new guy still looks shite though.
