Devsoc, or “Uni-Jam” calls on the most talented students to create a game in just 24 hours. It’s a very community based idea, with plenty of winners. Developers are judged on the innovation, graphics, accessibility and game play of their game.
Rebellion, the developers behind Sniper Elite 2 and Aliens Vs. Predator will be giving out prizes for winners of the graphics section. Rebellion also have a hand in 2000AD, so you can be sure of something awesome from that too!
The event is also supported by Nottingham’s own Game City. Game City will be doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes so to speak. Most notably, is that Microsoft is sponsoring Uni Jam 2012, which has opened another category “Best Windows phone/ Windows 8 game”. Entering this category is optional. But it’s worth it, you can win a kinect (boo) and a Microsoft t-shirt (Win!)
Other prizes include 5 community licenses for SDK marmalade, to an every day gamer this won’t mean much but for a developer this is a powerful tool. And another prize is licences to AppEasy SDK.
So far they only have one judge lined up, but they’re looking for an indie developer to take stand too. The current judge is Lee Scott from Microsoft, they’re hoping to get a total of 3 judges in the end. For more details check here.
