The develop conference has been a much loved event, this is the third time they’ve come up north of England to Liverpool.
within 5 minutes of being here I’ve already seen several developers and heads of companies. There wasn’t many seats, which is usually good. It makes it feel a bit more close and welcoming.
The opening keynote focused on lots of Playstation games, they explained that copy right law prohibited them from showing third party games, this makes me believe that really, they just don’t want to show any Xbox 360 games. They started with the PS1 and moved up through the consoles all the way to PSVITA The opening was presented by Michael Denny, Graeme Ankers, John Rostron, and Matt Southern.
They blamed poor wipeout sales on real world events. And said they didn’t intend to launch on vita, they just wanted to pick themselves up.
Wipeout is sharing the same engine as Motor storm on the PS3, I imagine it’ll be nerfed down, we’ll see. But does this mean that wipeout will just be a cleaner version of motor storm?
They said they hope to aim for a “Decent price, considering the kit you’re getting” That means a lot. (This is the VITA we’re talking about).
There was a lot of mumbling, and people seems pretty sleepy. That’s what happens when gamers have to get up in the morning sadly.
They went on to explain how great it is to have digital distribution, wait a minute…I think another handheld has done this, it looks like Sony are trying to pull off a move-to-wii thing again…Touch screen, digital distribution and a welcome hand to indie developers? 3DS has this already, sticking another touch screen won’t make it awesome. Am I the only one that finds that pitiful? Probably. Well readers I bet I know what you’re thinking “Flame on!”
They also rambled on about facebook and social networking again, this is a sad future for a lonely gamer like me.
