I’m going to start this with a very straight to the point opening:
Pros:
Fun gameplay
Amazing story
Great humour
Content for all ages
There’s going to be a sequel
Gamerpics
Avatar Awards
Lots and lots of quests
Co-Op
Cons:
Side quests are slightly the same
No online gameplay
So, unless you can’t count pass two, you will notice that there are a lot more pros than cons. The game follows the story of the hero: Deathspank. (And Sparkles, a wizard if you’re playing Co-Op) You will have to hack, slash and level your way to retrieve the “Artifact” Only called the “Artifact”. Each level will unlock a special card, allowing a range of different things, such as longer defence, faster running or using higher level weapons and armour! You can collect six of these, then they begin to just upgrade (Example: Instead of 10% faster run you get 15% and it would replace the 10% card)
Next up; the humour! This game thrives on teasing games like Dungeons & Dragons and Diablo. It also makes jokes, puns and insane logic at each turn, here’s some dialogue: “I placed a magic seal on the door.” – “You used magic on a poor defenceless circus animal? you fiend!” Okay, so the quotes may be off. But still, that’s the gist of it. Even the areas have jokes, some very mean but hilarious none the less! Stuff I wouldn’t really post on here.
There’s a few gamer pics to win, and two pieces of avatar clothes to win (assuming you count the male and female shirt as one), the map is somewhat large, with over 70 side quests to do, insane enemies such as leprechaun and a granny demon. The quests mostly range from killing things to gathering things, and while they DO get a little repetitive, it’s still fun to enjoy the dialogue.
All in all if you’re looking for a decent length, for the price of the game, and humour then this is the game for you. This isn’t a game for everybody. But c’mon, you can get a fist on a stick! If you don’t like that you must be pretty stupid. If you don’t like the gameplay then that’s fair enough. But still, I think Ron Gilbert has hit gold. Again.
8/10
