Colonial Marines: Preview - Teamwork Is Everything

Colonial Marines: Preview – Teamwork Is Everything

We have all been waiting for a new, good, alien game, and a lot of us have been looking forward to Colonial Marines. The game pits us as Cpl. Christopher Winter, a fairly standard marine. Which is part of the brilliance of this game.

We’ll see all kinds of weapons used in the films, as well as some new weapons added just for the game. At the Eurogamer Expo I got hands on with the multiplayer, we got to play as the marines, fighting against the SEGA developer team. Fun little note, we saw one adding code while we were in line.

So how is the game? In short, fucking awesome. The game seems to have mostly dark narrow maps with long corridors, which means you’ll hear a little scurry and a bit of a noise, as you ready yourself up and turn around, one of your teammates will be gone. Take note, there are no heroes.

The game gives you a detector, which meant I was instantly shouting “GhostBusters!” while playing the game…

I pretended I didn’t look like a tit in the middle of a gaming expo, and kept playing. The issue was that me being who I am, left my team and ended up getting eaten – alot.

After awhile I began to figure out “Strength in numbers” and surely enough, we began to kick arse as we stuck together, but as we kicked more and more arse, the enemies got bigger and bigger, we soon saw giant shields and faster aliens.

But how does it play? Well, it’s an FPS, so fairly standard to that. But all the guns are satisfying, the shotgun was fairly overpowered though – as it always seems to be. However, we stuck mostly to corridors, we didn’t go outside, this was to keep our advantage (Or we were all too lazy). It really seems like this game will need a lot of communication. Which is good in my opinion.

Sadly, I didn’t get to play the Xenomorphs, but they looked pretty fun to play, a little like L4D from the zombie side, a lot of crawling into dark areas.

Graphically the game didn’t shout out to me, but to be fair it was pretty hard to see anyway, which really added to the atmosphere of the game.

I really want to see more from this game, and I can’t wait to hear more about it.
