Boomstick time! Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Review

September 2, 2010 |  by  |  Reviews

Case Zero is the prologue to dead rising 2, it has zombies…So many zombies…

The general plot is that Chuck, the protagonist has his truck nicked, he’s in a small town, a population of around 750, and he has to get his slightly infected daughter as far away as possible due to military coming to aid the quarantine military that is currently stationed there, the quarantine ironically is filled with the infected. So in a race against time Chuck has to build a motor bike to take his daughter (Katey) Out of the town before the military throw her into quarantine.

To give you a taste of what’s to come (The achievement even states this) there are a variety of combo weapons to make, from dual ended chainsaw staffs, to simple bats ‘n’ nails. They’re all pretty damn efficient too!

You’re given a decent amount of map to explore crammed to the rim with zombies, items and survivors. The game seems to tease us into buying the full version; which does aid the demo theory. But honestly, if this was a demo I would be happy to buy it.

Chuck will meet some colourful characters, some who want to help you, some who almost definitely have a pun intended and one psychotic zombie hunter!

In terms of length it isn’t exactly the longest; a few hours maximum, but with around six endings, the game obviously has a lot of re-playability. And of course one of the most satisfying things in a game like dead rising 2 is zombie killing, so if you don’t actually want to “finish” the game you can just kill for hours, until Katey becomes a zombie or gets taken away by the bad men. If that happens, You can just restart the story with your current character and do it all again!

There’s a few survivors you can rescue, the characters seem to reach a deep channel of personalities, from Chuck fans to lucky Vegas winners. There’s also a little sub – mission you can do for one, which is good. Or would have been if I hadn’t already thrown the items meant to give to her at zombies.

So already we’ve seen the game allow us a lot of free roaming joy, awesome combo weapons and some interesting characters, so there’s little else we could ask for, but what’s this? We can change our clothes and hair style? Okay, so maybe we can only change to one different hair style, but it’s one awesome hair style!

The modest price of 400 MSP is more than enough reason to buy this. So go and do it now.
