Awesomenauts is indeed awesome

Awesomenauts first appeared to me at a game convention awhile back, I had a quick whirl and died, a lot. Then I got a free shirt, and I forgave them for my poor skills. (That’s right.)

So what is Awesomenauts? We’ll tackle the story first:

You play as a mercenary, there’s a few to pick from and they’re all rough ‘n’ tough. The tutorial has you play Lonestar, a cool cat cowboy. It’s your job to defend some fuel, thing. While attacking the other teams fuel thing.

Each character has a set of special abilities. After you level a little bit you will see that you can pick and choose things to add to the abilities on the field, kind of like perks. For example, “Leon” a chameleon-like character who has a sticky grabby tongue can be made to steal health and have an extended tongue.

The maps have a few hidden little bits and bobs to destroy your enemy, such as a giant sand worm that you can summon with a button, (This can also kill team mates!)

The idea is, you spawn on one end and obviously the opponents on the other end, and you have to charge at each other screaming until you hit a turret guarding their fuel (Which you have to make splode!) there are 4 turrets for each team, but you only have to break two to reach the fuel.

It works a little like league of legends, you have to use minions to take the agro while you stand behind them and blast the turret, or next time while you hit the turret. The battles can get pretty hectic, and some kind of noise when your special attacks had cooled down would be nice, but it’s not exactly game crippling.

There isn’t a great amount of characters to pick from right now, however the ones that are currently available are great, I mean there’s a monkey with lasers and a jet pack! Already there is talk of new characters being released.

This game is great, hard, but great. And you can have 3 player split screen! You’ll be stupid to miss this.
