Asylum Kickstarter Is Insane

Asylum Kickstarter Is Insane

More Kickstarter news. You could be forgiven for being a little weary of this kind of news, but as always I’m not here to waste time. There’s something unique about this particular Kickstarter that you might find interesting, if you have thousands of dollars lying around waiting to be spent.

Asylum is a point-and-click horror game that has been “greenlit” by the Steam community, and it’s being made whether you want to back it or not. But developer Senscape, whose previous work include Scratches and, ironically, the children’s educational game Risk Profile), are still asking for $100,000 to help the game come out faster. As always, there are several tiers of rewards depending on how much you’re willing to contribute and, in this case, there are definitely some interesting marks you can leave on the game if you’re willing to give enough.

For $150, your name will be included on the in-game guest registry. $250 puts you on the in-game inmate list, and so on. Most of the higher rewards get your name placed into the game somewhere. It’s when we get to $750 that things get unique. At that tier, you get your own in-game biography readable by the player in the archives room. For $1000, you get that, plus your profile gets a picture, and it’ll be scattered across the asylum and more visible to players.

But it gets better: For $2500 you can become a high risk inmate in the “Tunnel of the Damned,” where your name and profile labels one of the most dangerous cells in the game. And if you’re willing to pay twice that much, you’ll get that, and you’ll get rendered into the game as an actual character, visible to all who play the game. Pretty exciting, if you’ve got the green to spend.

Furthermore, if you’re a dude and you have a whopping $10,000 to give, you can shoot for the ultimate reward: having a prominent, plot-important male character in the game, rendered and named after yourself. There is even a barbecue with the developer and more shown in the picture below. While they didn’t reveal what role you’d play in the plot, they did reveal you’d be quite a nuance, so perhaps you’d get to kill some unsuspecting players. What fun!

Anyway, I like this. It’s an interesting and cute way of making the game more immersive by having real ‘people’ in the asylum, while also giving a bunch of rich jerks the chance to leave their mark in the Asylum universe. If you’re interested, you can read more about Asylum or donate here.
