Are You Going To Give Final Fantasy XIII-2 A Chance?

January 30, 2012 |  by  |  Editorials

The sequel will be coming out on game shelves tomorrow in America. I have been watching the commercials along with staring at the pictures of the video game. I go on YouTube sometimes and watch the previews of the game. Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be in our arms tomorrow.

I am one of those fans who had mixed feelings about this. One side of me wants to get it, but then another part of me doesn’t want to get it because I didn’t like the first game. Final Fantasy XIII-2 continues where the first game left off. Lightning, the main protagonist from the first game, has disappeared somewhere in the world and it is up to her younger sister Serah Farron to help find her.

She will visit familiar areas while discovering new ones. This will truly be the game where Serah will have the chance to shine. The actual story will delve deeper into the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology, and this time focus on the Goddess Etro.

Most gamers criticized the thirteenth game because of its departure from the Western themes that the franchise is best known. I personally thought it was too technical and there were some storylines that didn’t need to be in it. By the end of the game, I was very disappointed in what I was playing. So I was one of those fans that questioned if I should buy the sequel or not.

But when I think about it, it’s not the first time Final Fantasy had a flop. When Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within came out, I said that I would never go see another Final Fantasy movie if they ever decide to make one. That all changed when Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children came out. I gave them a chance.

Then there was also Final Fantasy X-2. Most people felt like there shouldn’t have been a sequel, and that the first game should’ve been a stand-alone game, no matter how much they wanted Tidus and Yuna to be together. But that didn’t stop us from venturing out into the online world when the eleventh game came out.

As much as I didn’t want to get the sequel, my passion for this franchise continues to make me get the next installment. It’s because of that alone why I will be right there on its opening night, buying and playing my own copy of Final Fantasy XIII-2.

It comes out January 31st. Are you going to give it a chance?
